We congratulate Senior Associate Simon Umow and Associate Sam Adams on their recent promotion. For more than 15 years, Simon Umow has applied his expert knowledge of the many facets of ICT design to provide design advice for a whole range of commercial, government, residential, hospitality and educational buildings. Complex audio visual facilities and system design, collaborative and conferencing technologies, building and system integration and the user experience are the areas Simon has focused his skills on and finds the most rewards.
Significant projects Simon has provided consultancy services for include the ANZ head office, AXA head office, ASIO Headquarters in the ACT, Australian National University’s Colleges of Science precinct, Collins Square Business and Event Centre, and Australia’s most luxurious apartment and technologically enabled building at 150 Clarendon Street, East Melbourne. Simon has also provided the Audio Visual Consultancy on two of Victoria’s leading University projects – the recently completed Arts West Redevelopment project for University of Melbourne and the New Horizons Centre for Monash University, inclusive of the CAVE2 Automatic Virtual Environment.
Currently Simon is working on the redevelopment of RACV’s Cape Schanck Resort, the redevelopment of the University of Melbourne’s Werribee Campus, and WorkSafe’s new head office and NDIA’s head office both in Geelong. Outside the office, he likes to spend time with his family, travelling, playing racquet sports and listening to music.
Sam Adams, an Electrical Engineer, who has been promoted to the position of Associate, has been developing his skills in building design in the UK and Australia for over 10 years. Along with a detailed knowledge of electrical, lighting and embedded generation systems, Sam has a keen interest in sustainability as well as the interaction between services, structure and architecture.
With day-to-day responsibilities that include leading a project team, collaborative design and meeting clients, Sam’s friendly manner, technical knowledge and strong time management skills help achieve positive outcomes for clients. Some highlights so far include working on successful projects at the MCG, Telstra Exchanges, Melbourne Girls Grammar and several of Melbourne’s major universities.
At the moment, Sam is focusing on designing Solar Photovoltaic and Microgrid systems for new and existing facilities. Outside of the workplace, Sam enjoys trying to keep up with his family including two young sons, music, travel, reading and scoring the odd goal on the futsal court.
