After two years of designing and construction, RACV’s newly redeveloped Cape Schanck Resort is now open to guests and members.
Cape Schanck is located on the southern-most point of the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria, and is one of RACV’s first resorts to operate, purchased back in December 2005.
The $150 million redevelopment project has taken on a unique dune-like shaped façade that overlooks Bass Strait, comprising of a new 200 room luxury hotel and associated facilities.
A team of over 350 construction workers were involved in the redevelopment scheme, building a new retreat for RACV members and guests travelling to the popular Victorian seaside town.
Together with RACV and award-winning architects Wood Marsh, Umow Lai worked to deliver specific design elements that ensured staff and visitors had access to the latest technology in a safe, comfortable and modern environment.
The Cape Schanck Resort pays homage to the building’s surroundings of coastal views and the land on which it is built.
The architectural structure of the resort pays homage to the ocean, with soft wave-like curves making up the outside appearance of the construction. The building design was inspired by the landscape on which it is built on, encapsulating the concept of ‘water-meets-land’.
The building offers panoramic views of Bass Strait and Port Phillip Bay for guests staying at the resort and is astutely designed to provide ocean views from every single guest room within the facility.
The redevelopment works were strategically carried out to ensure the continued use of facilities for all guests during their stay, including the existing golf course, resort accommodation and additional restaurant, bar, gym, pool and playground.
Umow Lai’s award-winning Information & Communications Technology (ICT) team ensured the following features were delivered:
- Main Server Room and Communications Infrastructure to support various building systems and guest wired and wireless networks
- Integrated audio-visual systems to Meeting Rooms, Conference Rooms, Function Rooms, Kids Rooms and Gyms
- Centralised room control systems integration with lighting, motorised blinds and audio-visual equipment
- Multi-zone background music and paging system
- Digital signage
- Access Control, CCTV and Alarm System integrated with RACV centralised Security and Membership systems
- Television distribution system incorporating free to air and pay TV services
The new RACV resort is anticipated to attract more visitors to the Peninsula region, due to its positive economic impact, unique design and unparalleled ocean views.
The project signifies a momentous step forward in tourism for the Cape Schanck area, providing a facility for all members to enjoy a variety of experiences including RACV Club benefits, access to the beach and local activities along the Mornington Peninsula.
