Location: Dandenong, Victoria
Client: Southern Cross Care
Design Teams: Thinc Projects / PTA Architecture
Value: $20 + million
Umow Lai has been engaged as the engineering services, ICT and sustainability consultants for the new Southern Cross Care aged care home in Victoria’s rapidly re-developing suburb of Dandenong.
With the emphasis on providing a home-like environment, the $20 + million development includes accommodation for 120 residents to replace the existing 52-place residential home and 10 individual units located on Langhorne Street.
The first stage will see the demolition of the independent living units and the building of a new two-storey 60-room home, including café, chapel and other amenities.
As part of the second stage, the existing 52-place building will be demolished and another two-storey 60-room building erected. It will include a car park, kitchen and laundry underneath. Upon completion, the two buildings will be internally linked to share the facilities which will include a Wellness Centre.
Eric Ko, a Umow Lai Senior Associate who is heading their project team, says it is a rare opportunity to have the chance to work on a new redevelopment site. “We are starting from scratch and can therefore explore the latest technologies, sustainability and design elements in this fast-growing sector.”
Umow Lai will be working closely with their client Southern Cross Care and design team members including Thinc Projects and PTA Architecture.
