SCAPE

Project Description

Location: Melbourne, CBD
Size: 761 rooms over 45 Levels

Education is one of the stars of Australia’s rising export services sector, with foreign student numbers predicted to surpass the record level of 120,000 in 2009. The rise in demand for rental accommodation has attracted international student accommodation provider Scape Living to our shores.

Scape Living plans to provide up to 3000 beds initially across multiple sites in Melbourne and Brisbane. The first two buildings are Swanston Street, Melbourne and Vulture Street in Brisbane’s West End.

National engineering consultancy Umow Lai has been selected by Scape for their entry into our nation’s $20 billion student accommodation sector.

“Being involved with Scape’s first ventures in Australia, is an exciting prospect,” Patrick Elliott, Director of Umow Lai and leader of the firm’s Melbourne project team states.
393 Swanston Street is in close proximity to RMIT, Melbourne University and the State Library, as well as being highly accessible by public transport with trams and Melbourne Central located within a short walking distance. The project will provide a modern, contemporary student lifestyle, consisting of 761 rooms over 45 levels, (each complete with ensuite and kitchenette), reception and lobby area, common amenity (including lounges, cinema, study, laundry and gym) and ground floor retail tenancies.
The Brisbane site has been strategically located on Vulture Street in West End, within walking distance to a number of campuses including Southbank Institute of Technology, Griffith University Southbank and Queensland University’s Gardens Point campus. The development will provide 768 rooms and consists of two towers (15 and 14 levels) interconnected with footbridges at each level integrating the student lounges, retail, gym and café spaces.
Both projects are due for completion in late 2017, in time for the start of the 2018 university year.
