Announcing Umow Lai’s up and comers and recent promotions
This year, we look to the future as we evaluate ways where we can implement innovation in our projects and upskill and empower our staff to be both technically savvy engineers and true leaders in the built environment.
The following promotions have all been earned based on a commitment to excellence in client service, technical prowess and continuously going above and beyond allocated roles. We commend the following staff on their achievements and proudly introduce some of our rising stars.
Matthew’s appointment signifies an outstanding achievement and recognition of his role in the Queensland office, which encompasses extensive technical and project commitments as well as a strong aptitude for new initiatives and exemplary client service. Lead by State Director, Andrew Jenkinson, the Queensland office has achieved growth in staff numbers and projects, and we commend Matt for his significant contribution to this.
Umow Lai Queensland is on a steady path of expansion, being recognised as a significant consulting engineering firm in Queensland. Working closely with Andrew, Matthew demonstrates his leadership skills in marketing, client service and to the Brisbane staff to continue growth in Queensland. Matthew is known to be a well-rounded and knowledgeable engineer and has forged great relationships with his clients. He continues to lead the electrical & communications disciplines and is heavily involved in project work.
We welcome Matt to the leadership team and look forward to his contribution as a Director.
With over 40 years of experience in Hydraulics engineering, Graeme comes with significant experience in all types of buildings, including complex facilities such as laboratories and hospitals. Graeme continues to lead the Hydraulics discipline and plays an important role in the development and advancement of our Hydraulics design and documentation. Well respected by the industry and his peers, he mentors our current group of young Hydraulics engineers.
We commend Graeme for his contribution to the Hydraulics Industry and this promotion recognises his outstanding leadership and achievement in delivering numerous complex multi-million dollar projects.
Having led and delivered multi-million dollar projects at Melbourne Airport, Chris has developed and grown our involvement in the Aviation space. Recognised as a very capable leader, Chris is well liked by clients and known for his extremely collaborative spirit.
Chris continues to develop his leadership skills in the business, leading and building teams in the Mechanical disciplines in particular.
We congratulate Chris on his excellent achievement in the Aviation market sector. His promotion reflects his strong capabilities and development as a senior leader for the organisation.
Joel’s promotion to Associate recognises his ability to deliver projects and continue to develop close relationships with his clients. Always dependable, Joel has a ‘can do’ attitude, always wanting to deliver the best possible results for his clients. His calm demeanour even under pressure sets a great example for his team. Joel represents the future generation of leaders of the company as he has an adaptable skill set and possesses multi-discipline capabilities.
This promotion reflects Joel’s dedication and commitment to Umow Lai as well as his commitment to client service excellence. Well done Joel.
With over 17 years of experience in the industry, Greg joined Umow Lai 2 years ago. In his short tenure at Umow Lai, Greg has demonstrated his high-performance mentality, with exceptional problem-solving abilities and has successful leadership in numerous major school projects.
We commend Greg on his achievements so far and we know he has a bright future ahead.
Robert joined Umow Lai almost 3 years ago with a wealth of knowledge in the Mechanical industry. Robert specialises in Airport, Government, Commercial, Residential and both Primary/Secondary & Tertiary projects. With his easy-going and “get the job done” nature, Robert is a prime example of an experienced leader and engineer who can manage and deliver projects to ensure our clients receive optimal service and their desired project outcomes.

Vlad joined the Umow Lai Sydney Team over 2 years ago with a wealth of knowledge in HVAC systems and ESD consulting. Vlad specialises in Airport, Transport, Tertiary, Recreation, Aged Care, Commercial, Residential and Government sectors.
Vlad is known by his clients to be patient as he takes the time to gain an in-depth understanding of their needs and ensures he contributes to their successful delivery.

Sheldon joined Umow Lai over a year ago after moving from Auckland NZ to Sydney, Australia. Since his time at Umow Lai, Sheldon has demonstrated that he is a successful and efficient project leader and has recently taken on board a major transport project; the Sydney Ferry Wharves Project. Sheldon is currently managing and providing Electrical services to over 26 ferry wharves located across Sydney.
Congratulations to Sheldon on his promotion to Senior Electrical Engineer.
Having been with Umow Lai for over half a year, Jack has made a tremendous impression in the ICT and AV team with his meticulous approach to projects and attentiveness to clients’ wants and needs. With over 8 years’ experience, Jack delivers quality results on major projects with high client demands in Airport, Commercial, Hospitality, Tertiary, Secondary Education and Residential sectors. He is well received in the industry and continues to grow in his role.
