As we approach the end of 2018, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on the year and the evolutions which have occurred in our company, as well as the wider built environment.
Firstly, allow me to thank our highly dedicated and skilled staff who have navigated a complex environment in 2018. We have witnessed an increase of activities across all sectors with faster project turnaround times, differing project procurement methods and greater calls for inventive solutions.
Umow Lai have indeed met the challenges of 2018 with a strong uplift in the aviation and correctional facilities sectors and have continued to thrive in our traditional educational, commercial, health, science, mixed-use and high-end residential sectors.
Our most notable projects across Australia for 2018 include; the iconic Waltzing Matilda Centre in Winton, the historically prominent Newmarket Randwick residential precinct, the former Victoria Police Mounted Branch stables, transformed into a world-class teaching facility at The University of Melbourne, the Herston Quarter precinct, which is destined to become a major health, aged care and mixed-use destination in Brisbane, the commercial A grade office tower at 477 Pitt Street in Sydney and the highly sustainable Limestone House in Toorak.
In recent times, we have seen a growing trend of global engineering firms merging with or acquiring Australian owned companies. Umow Lai remains committed to being Australian owned and operated. We are proud to be an enduring national, engineering consultancy, allowing us to provide personalised service with an agile approach.
“Umow Lai remains committed to being Australian owned and operated. Our vision is to be at the forefront of innovation on a world scale and implement the knowledge acquired to further advance the design of buildings in Australia.”
Our unique approach to expansion involves leveraging current global relationships with like-minded firms through technical collaborations, investing in the education of our staff, promoting thought leadership and researching best practice around the world to bring global innovation to the fore in Australia.
In 2018, we have formed a technical collaboration with the award-winning global engineering consultancy, Hoare Lea as well as broadening our presence in the Asian market through our collaboration with Wong & Ouyang Hong Kong. We have also embarked on a global study tour across the United States, Europe and Asia to research best practice across building services, sustainability and technology.
Our vision is to be at the forefront of innovation on a world scale and implement the knowledge acquired to further advance the design of buildings in Australia.
I would like to thank our key industry colleagues whom we have worked closely with over the years.
We have an exciting year ahead with completion of landmark projects and announcements of key leadership appointments in 2019.
I look forward to sharing more with you in the new year.
Until then, on behalf of the Umow Lai team, I would like to wish our friends, partners, colleagues and families a very happy holiday season and prosperous new year.
We look forward to another fantastic year in 2019.
