AIRAH 2016 Winner – Excellence in Sustainability

Providing the highest level of sustainable design and Green Star services for the new School of Design building at The University of Melbourne has led to the project being selected as a finalist in the Australian Institute of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Heating (AIRAH) 2016 Awards – Award for Excellence in Sustainability.

According to Shane Esmore, Umow Lai’s Director of Sustainability who led our project team, the architectural design, and quality of the internal spaces provide an outstanding environment for the next generation of architects, urban planners, ecologists, builders and landscape architects to lean to work in a connected way. Further, it provides an exceptional example of a highly sustainable building that relies primarily on its passive performance and ability to act as a Living Building and has achieved a 6 Star Green Star rating from an original 5 Star brief without needing to add to its design with renewable energy systems, or the like.

Shane will attend the AIRAH national awards presentation ceremony in Sydney on 10 November.
